Dale Carnegie helps people who have taken advantage of turnkey business opportunities

Welcome to my book review on Dale Carnegie's 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' . To start this series of articles and videos I thought it appropriate to discuss who is Dale Carnegie, and how he can help turnkey business owners?

Dale Carnegie was born in poverty in Missouri on 24th November 1888, the second son to his parents James and Amanda. In his early years he obtained his education at the State Teacher College in Warrensburg, even though he had to get up at 4am every morning to milk his parent's cows.

Dale's first job was in sales, selling correspondence courses to ranchers, though he soon moved onto selling items like bacon, soap, and lard. And he was very good at it, at one point making his sales territory of South Omaha, Nebraska, the national leader for the firm he was working for.

In 1911 Dale quit sales to pursue a dream of becoming a lecturer, focussing on Chautauqua, which brought entertainment and culture for the whole community, including speakers, musicians, entertainers, teachers, preachers etc. Theodore Roosevelt once stated that Chautauqua is the 'most American thing in America'.

But instead of becoming a Chautauqua lecturer he attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, though success as an Actor was to be difficult to find. Soon he was broke and living in the YMCA in New York.

But it was here that he got the inspiration to become a teacher of public speaking. With his resources very low he had to start small, giving most of the proceeds away, and having little material to work with.

But he came up with a masterstroke, to get people to confront their fears of public speaking by talking about what makes them angry. Before he knew it he had linked into the American desire to have more self confidence, and by 1914 he was earning $500 every week, which has an equivalence of $10,000 today.

Dale's crowning achievement was this book 'How to win friends and influence people. The book was a best seller from when it was first published in 1937, and was in it's17th printing within a few months. By the time Dale passed away he had sold over 5 million copies in 31 languages.

In the above I have provided you an insight on who is Dale Carnegie which will be useful to understand as we progress through his book. Dale was a leader in the world of self confidence and influencing people. He was also passionate about teaching people and helping people better themselves.

Everything Dale Carnegie taught is applicable to people who have taken advantage of turnkey business opportunities. Dale Carnegie taught people to improve themselves, in particular public speaking and personal relationships. All business owners need to have confidence when speaking and everyone needs to have the ability to develop long lasting personal relationships. Without these skills turnkey business opportunity owners will struggle to build their businesses into long term sustainable businesses.

It is worth a quick watch of my video on Dale Carnegie where I provide you some insights on what I can relate to about Dale Carnegie and why I selected this book to review.
