Improve Your Golf Swing With Better Tempo - The Secret to Better Golf
Ryan Lonsbury
One of the secrets to improving your golf swing is to focus on producing better tempo in your swing. For all of the tips on how to grip the club, what swing plane to use, or what is the proper swing path, none are as important as finding the tempo of your own swing.
Everybody has a personal speed at which they like to do things. This personal time-clock extends to all areas of ones life. If you like to walk fast you should swing the club fast. If you are more likely to take a leisurely stroll then your swing should take slightly longer.
Think about how you do things in life and try to match that pace to the tempo of your swing. Whatever you decide the main key is to make sure that your backswing takes twice the amount of time as your downswing. This 2 to 1 ratio will produce a solid and repeatable golf swing. This single change will have profound effects on your golf game.
Take a look at some famous touring pros and you will notice that they play true to their personal tempo. Guys like Lee Trevino, who talks fast and plays fast, had a very quick and short swing. So does Nick Price, another example of a quick swinger. Phil Mickelson likes to saunter down the fairway and his swing is long, fluid, and unhurried. When he starts to hit the driver offline it is usually because of bad timing related to the tempo of his swing.
Change up your tempo and you'll play better golf.
